The perfect letterbox gift: Aunty Banty’s Bakery Cake Pops.

Birthdays, anniversaries, new babies and ‘thinking of you’ moments have come and gone over the past three months. And I’ve left no virtual stone unturned on the internet in an attempt to find affordable, well-presented letterbox gifts with a decent delivery date and price from independent businesses. Pretty lengthy list, I know. And if you’ve set off on the hunt yourself, you’ll know it feels like searching for a bobby pin in the bottom of your bag on the tram. Near impossible. Then, like a saccharine-shaded beacon lunging from my laptop screen to solve my struggles, I discovered Aunty Banty’s Bakery.

Nestled in Wolverhampton, Aunty Banty’s Bakery freshly make, bake, craft and decorate delicious cake pops by hand from one home kitchen, making the brand about as adorably wholesome as it gets. Shipping nationwide and delivering the goods in a modest brown cardboard box with charming coloured tissue paper and wrapping each cake pop individually, Instagrammable presentation’s a given. It’s a delivery that can be gobbled up by all the senses.

I went for the aptly named Rainbow Pops (for me, myself and I), which start from £14. Indulgent chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, Buttery vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, Zesty lemon cake with vanilla buttercream & lemon juice and Carrot cake with cream cheese icing are your flavour options. The cake’s a sweet, silky mixture that pretty much defines ‘moist’ – a rite of passage for any cake. And let’s just say Goldilocks would be pleased with the velvety buttercream and icing ratios – just the right amount of creaminess.

“You know that kind of delicious when you finish and have an internal ‘shall I go and buy more cake?’ battle?”

My personal favourite was the carrot cake as I’m a magpie to diamonds when it comes to cream cheese. But hand on my hungry, hungry heart, they were all totally delicious. You know that kind of delicious when you finish and have an internal “shall I go and buy more cake?” battle? Yeah, that kind. Every cake pop comes with a lengthy best-before date and they’re that gorgeously moist that you can get a good 2-3 weeks out of them. Egg and gluten-free chocolate cake pops options are available too.

So, the letterbox gift scavenger hunt’s over and the treasure’s been found in the form of spherical cake lollipops. There’s something so lovely about sending a special somebody a gift that can be popped right through their letterbox without being signed for. It keeps a little bit of the sparkle in gift-giving that’s recently been erased by the absence of in-person meet-ups and celebrations.

From now on, my friends and family best look forward to battling their own “shall I go and buy more cake?” thoughts. And I’ll look forward to being hailed the best present buyer around, all thanks to Aunty Banty’s Bakery of course.
